We all know an acronym or two although; some of us seem to forget what the word even means. It’s a series of letters and each letter stands for something. For example, VIP stands for very important person, LOL means laugh out loud, and FBI means Federal Bureau of Investigation. Although acronyms weren’t very common years ago its popularity seems to be growing in popularity with the text message craze. There are many common text message acronyms already out there but you can also created your own.

The number one rule you need to remember is that everyone uses acronyms when sending text messages. And I mean everyone, including business people, doctors and even parents. They are a great way to quickly get your point across – when appropriate. You can use them for variety of things scheduling appointments, studying for school, or simply chatting with someone. If you are to create your own make sure they’re simple and they use some common substitutions. Most acronyms replace the word “are” with the letter “R” and the word “you” with the letter “U”. Making things much simpler.

Here’s an example of a made up one: RUC2D? = Are you coming to dinner?

It is common knowledge that distracted driving is one of the major causes of car accidents. Roughly 6,000 deaths and half a million injuries annually are caused by distracted drivers. One of the main distractions is cell phones. In a 2011 poll, 37 percent of drivers admitted to having sent to received and read text messages while driving. 18 percent reported that they do so on a regular basis. And in a 2008 poll of 16- and 17-year-olds, 46 percent admit to texting while driving. In 2009, the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute conducted a study which examined the driving habits of truck drivers covering more than six million miles of road. The Institute concluded that drivers who send text messages while operating a moving vehicle are 23 times more likely to be in a crash than non-distracted drivers.

In Carr, CO, 18-year-old Makayla Lynn Belew was killed in a hit-and-run while walking along the side of the road. It wasn’t until a year later that 28-year-old Larry Chad Smithey was arrested. He had been texting while driving.

In other cases, texting drivers have been operating vehicles other than cars. In a horrifying accident occurring September 12, 2008, in the Chatsworth district of Los Angeles, a Metrolink commuter train ran a red signal and collided head-on with a Union Pacific freight train. The crash has since been blamed on the Metrolink train’s 46-year-old engineer, who, phone records indicate, sent the last in a series of text messages 22 seconds before impact. In total, 25 people died in the wreck, including Sanchez. 135 other were injured. It remains the deadliest accident in Metrolink history.

Different Text Acronyms for Saying LOL

Without question, the most widely used acronym in texting is LOL.

Make a joke, follow it with LOL. Say something inappropriate, LOL will fix it.

But sometimes, you need to express yourself a bit more than with a simple laugh out loud. You need to emphasize how hard you are laughing.

In these situations, one of the following acronyms may be better suited to express just how you feel…

ROFL  – Rolling on the floor laughing. Simple and to the point. Also written as ROTFL.

LMAO – Laughing my a** off. Not too vulgar, but certainly not something you would send to your mother.

FOFL – Falling on the floor laughing. For those of us who don’t like to roll around.

ROFLMAO – Rolling on the floor laughing my a** off. Just like peanut butter and chocolate, some things were just meant to be together.

LMFAO – Laughing my f***ing a** off. This one is so strong they named a band after it.

GOL – Giggle out loud. Shy girls use this one.

JK – Just kidding. Not quite the same as a hearty laugh out loud, but it lets your text buddy know you weren’t serious just the same.

TIC – Tongue in cheek. Used when just kidding is too low class for the audience.

VBG – Very big grin. Used by the more impish texters.

Lolz – Multiple lols at once.

Lulz – When someone is the victim of a prank, they get lulz instead of lols.

LOLOLOLOL – Same as lols, just the longer version.

*g* – For grins.

J4G – Just for grins.

Mdr – LOL in French, mort de rire, and Esperanto, multe da ridoj.

555 – LOL in Thai. Kinda cool huh?

Jajajaja – The Spanish version. Those of you who play online games probably have seen this one before.

Text Message Acronyms to Make Any Girl Laugh

It’s understood that guys try everything they can to impress a girl, and part of that is attempts to make her laugh.

Sometimes though the simplest things can make any girl laugh, the challenge is when you are texting the girl. You don’t want to sound like an idiot because usually when you tell a joke it requires body language.

DNC – Do Not Compute. Sometimes girls say things that guy just can’t understand say this funky thing and they’ll definitely get a laugh out of it.

HFAC – Holy Flippin Animal Crackers! Sometimes it’s a mood changer to have a guy curse all the time. It goes from cool and fun to totally lame. Therefore, turn your cursing into funny weird phrases such as this one.

IAMU – I’m A Monkey’s Uncle. It’s weird but totally funny. It’ll make annoy laugh and question your sanity and therefore you can reply with something even funnier.

SII – Seriously Impaired Imagination. Men/Boys you know your imagination is not as good as the girl so if she tries to paint a picture for you and you can’t just picture it, be honest and it’ll make her laugh.

SODDI – Some Other Dude Did It. Did something you weren’t supposed to? Well make it cute.. say it was someone else with puppy dog face.

CRD- Can’t dance? Blame it on Caucasian Rhythm Disorder.

WWJD – What Would Jesus Do. Sometimes you’re stuck in a situation that no one wants to help you. Make them help you by referring to Jesus…. Good luck if they’re atheist.

Although no acronym is guaranteed to make a girl laugh get a feel for the situation and just got with it! Be creative and make up your own if you can think of any because that would mean you really don’t have SII.
